Portrait of Yasamin Karimi

Nothing has ever fascinated me more than the complexity of being human.

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to understanding people—their inner worlds, relationships, emotions, and the often-unseen forces that shape how they experience themselves and others. This curiosity has guided both my personal and professional journey and continues to deepen with every passing year. I hold a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree and am a Registered Psychotherapist based in Toronto, with nearly two decades of professional experience in psychotherapy and mental health. My approach is rooted in depth psychology. I believe that our struggles cannot always be understood through symptoms alone. Our histories, relationships, and emotional experiences often influence our present lives in ways we may not fully recognize. Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to explore these deeper dimensions, develop greater self-understanding, and create meaningful, lasting change. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Working across cultures has strengthened my appreciation for the many ways identity, family, tradition, and lived experience shape our psychological lives. I approach each person with curiosity, sensitivity, and respect for the complexity of their individual story. Beyond my clinical practice, my professional experience has included facilitating group therapy, providing clinical supervision, developing and delivering psychoeducational workshops and programs, public speaking, national television interviews, publishing articles, and advocating for mental health and human rights. These experiences have allowed me to engage with psychological well-being not only through individual therapeutic relationships, but also through education, dialogue, and community engagement. What continues to inspire me is the opportunity to encounter each person beyond labels, diagnoses, or immediate difficulties—to understand not only what they are struggling with, but also who they are. I see psychotherapy as more than a means of alleviating distress. At its best, it is a process of discovery, reflection, and transformation that can enrich the way we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. Sometimes, the willingness to explore what troubles us is enough to begin, and I would welcome the opportunity to take that journey with you.
